I have been looking for ways to help Leah communicate with us. Just in the last 2 months I started American sign language with her. I have a couple of friends who used ASL with their babies, and it worked! I started researching online using youtube and google as my guide. I started with just "more" and "milk". At first I felt like I was making a fool out of myself doing sign language in front of other people and my baby did nothing but whine back to me. I was almost to the point of throwing in the towel when I received My Baby Can Talk series. There 3 adorable books and 3 amazing dvd's. Leah and I sat down and watched the dvd's, and it gave me a little more motivation. I understood how the signs work, and kept at it.
To my surprise, Leah now knows 3 signs perfectly. She knows "more", "milk", and of course "dog". Every time we feed her or give her snacks we sign more to her before every bite. She will now mimic what we are signing. When I nurse her I'll ask her if she wants "milk" and she will do the sign. I love it! She also pats her little legs when she sees our 2 dogs. My Baby Can Talk is an amazing program, and I have learned so much. We are working on many more signs now. I noticed once she knows there is a sign for one thing, she picks up a lot faster on the next sign.

My Baby Can Talk is a series of award winning DVDs and board books that teaches babies and parents to communicate at an early age, reducing frustration and creating a special bond that is so important for healthy child development. Babies are able to communicate at a much earlier age than they are able to speak. Research has shown that babies who use sign language tend to speak sooner with larger vocabularies, show an increase in IQ scores and engage in more sophisticated play.
Honored more than twenty national parenting awards including Parents Choice and reviewed and endorsed by child psychologists, professionals in the media as well as early childhood educators; My Baby Can Talk inspires preverbal communication using sign language as well as first spoken words. The My Baby Can Talk DVD series is the first program featuring preverbal babies signing all the words presented. Set to inspiring classical music, My Baby Can Talk videos feature beautiful real world images, delightful puppet shows, colorful toys in motion and babies communicating with simple gestures.
The My Baby Can Talk board books are truly unique in subject and format with no equal available on the market today. Each page comes alive with the word, a vibrant real world image and a delightful poem for parents to share with their babies. In addition, an illustration of the sign and a formal sign description is offered for parents to learn and teach to their little ones. These books are designed to inspire babies to learn to sign, learn to speak and begin to recognize the written word. One of the greatest human needs is to be understood and we are committed to fulfilling this need for preverbal babies.

I am a follower of your blog have been for some time now and I love it. It gives me a smile on those extra challenging days with my little one.
ReplyDeleteI would love to win this series because I have been using sign with Jessie since birth. She knows the signs for milk, food, diaper...we have used some other ones but she doesn't recognize them yet. She can do diaper kinda and we are working on the rest with her but I think seeing the signs would help her understand what to do. And it is a proven fact that if you sign with your baby it helps their communication later on so I would love to start her communication now.
My name is Ronnette and me email is rmchalker@hotmail.com
My little guy has recently starting signing and I'd love to learn more. He signs milk and "all done" at 9 months.

ReplyDeleteI would absolutely love this series because I've heard so many great things about early communication with their babies and would love to get Autumn started early on it so I don't get frustrated later on in her life that I can't understand her.
